Hi, guys —
I am beginning the process to convert to Roman Catholicism, however I have a concern. I was divorced six years ago and am wondering if my marriage was even valid due to my ex-husband being an atheist.
- We had a civil law marriage, but were we really married in the eyes of God, if one was a non-believer?

Annette,
The marriages of atheists are presumed to be valid, natural marriages, however, you can have that marriage examined for validity on other grounds.
