Hi, guys —
My first grandchild was born last year and I was very pleased that my daughter had chosen the name of Julian because I knew there was a tradition behind Saint Julian he could uphold.
I was even more grateful when I found out that Julian's birth date: February 12th, was the feast day for St Julian, but upon further investigation I found out that many think the "legend" of
St. Julian may have never happened but that the name was related to a kind of a "christianization" of the Oedipus myth.
As a Catholic and as a grandma I need to figure out the right way to look at this situation and explain it to Julian, as I am trying to raise him into a good Catholic man.

Is there a good saint named Julian that I can encourage my grandchild to adopt? }

Hi, Selby —
There are several St. Julian's that are solidly attested to:
Pick one or let him do so when he grows up.

Selby —
There are several saints by that name, among them:
- Pope St. Julius
- Julian the martyr
- Julian the Hospitaller, and
- many other Julia's, I am sure.
There is also Juliana of Norwich, not a saint but a holy woman.
Baptismal names do not need to be saint's names but should be Christian in some way.
