Hi, guys —

I was taken to a Catholic Church growing up with my grandparents but my parents baptized and confirmed me in the Lutheran church. I have now grown up and fallen in love with a great Christian man. We have recently been talking about getting married. Being Catholic is very important to his family as well as getting married in the same church as his parents, sister and grandparents. My questions are as followed:

  1. Do I have to be Catholic to be married in a Catholic Church?
  2. What does it take to become Catholic?
  3. What is proper dress attire for a woman's wedding dress in a Catholic Church?

  { Can you answer some questions from a Lutheran woman preparing to marry a Catholic man? }

Mike replied:

Hi Holly,

Thanks for the question.

You said:

  1. Do I have to be Catholic to be married in a Catholic Church?
<No, but read the first posting below.>
  2. What does it take to become Catholic?
<Check the FAQ, the second posting below.>
  3. What is proper dress attire for a woman's wedding dress in a Catholic Church?

To my knowledge there is no proper dress attire for a woman's wedding dress in the Church.

For attendance at Sunday Mass, proper dress would be something that is modest, unpretentious, and becoming for a woman.

These postings should answer questions 1 and 2, if not, just come back with some follow-up questions:

  1. Can I marry a non-Catholic in the Catholic Church and how do I ask her to convert to Catholicism?
  2. How does one become a Catholic?

Many answers to questions like these are in our searchable knowledge base.
Try next time for a quick answer!

I hope this helps,

Mike
