Hi, guys —
- Can you tell me what my official Confirmation name is?
I requested a Saint's name and was told by the RCIA director that the priest would use this name during the sacrament, however, the priest used my actual name instead, and the Saint's name does not appear on my Confirmation certificate.
When I asked the RCIA director about this, she said that it did not matter which name was used in the sacrament or appeared on the certificate — that the Saint's name I chose was still my real Confirmation name.
Thank you!

Hi Carrie,
Thanks for the question.
I don't know what your full first name is, but if you Google it with patron saints, you may be able to find out more. Tell me what your full first name is and I can help. I am disappointed by the attitude of your RCIA director. If you wish to take the name of a specific saint for Confirmation, it should be respected.
The pastor at the parish will have recorded the official name in the parish register at the rectory. It will tell you what name was used. Usually, if nothing is specified, like in my case, they use the baptismal name, which for me was Michael, for the Confirmation name.
- The bad news: You can't change your Confirmation name.
- The good news: You can privately ask your chosen saint to pray and intercession on your behalf in working out your vocation in life.
I would encourage those who plan to be confirmed in the near future to personally talk with the pastor and let him know that you want to use a specific saint's name as your Confirmation name and have it recorded in the Confirmation records. The earlier this is done the better.

Hello Mike,
Thank you for your reply, and also for your offer to help me find a patron saint.
My full first name is just "Carrie". When I was looking for Confirmation names, I did find a
Saint Caroline, but I wasn't interested at the time.
