Hi, guys —

I have had trouble with my Epilepsy for the past two years. I came across a web site that uses a taoistic (one based on Taoism) philosophy to nutrition that claims to help people with seizures.

At first, I was enthused because I felt there was no harm in going on a diet but later I realized this involves Taoism, which is contrary to Catholic teaching.

  • Am I wrong to think I shouldn't pursue this diet called Nutritional Balancing?

It seems difficult to identify the problem. Food is used to help ones health in traditional medicine.

  • Can I separate myself from Taoistic philosophy by saying it's just a diet?
  • What if traditional medicine were to approve of this diet?

Bob replied:

Dear Friend,

If there are things in the diet that are contrary to Church teaching, simply don't do that (such as some forms of meditation that may not be in concert Christian teaching).

Otherwise, you may use the diet to improve your situation.

Peace,

Bob Kirby
