William wrote:

Hi, guys —

I was raised Catholic but married a non-Catholic in the Episcopal church. From that marriage we had a son. My wife left us and filed for divorce which I could not stop (although I tried). The legal divorce eventually went through and she is now re-married, living overseas.

I came back to the Catholic Church over a year ago and brought my son into the Church; he was baptized Episcopalian. At some point, God-willing, I would like to get married to a Catholic in the Catholic Church.

  • Is that possible?

William

  { After marrying in the Episcopal church, can I return and get married in the Catholic Church? }

Paul replied:

Dear William,

Yes, it is possible.

If you were a baptized Catholic that married outside the Catholic Church your marriage was invalid. You need to see a priest for instruction and Confession.

He should be able to guide your steps appropriately.

Peace,

Paul
