Richard wrote:

Hi, guys —

I have been married over 30 years, raised a family, and have recently retired.

I have used marijuana for years and always thought it was OK in moderation. It helps me relax, eases my pain, and helps with occasional sleeplessness.

Now I have read that the Church considers it a sin.

  • Is it a sin if I do not believe it is?

Richard

Bob replied:

Richard,

Sin is sin, whether you know it or not. The real question is how culpable are you for it.

Culpability is mitigated by ignorance, addiction, and other issues but there is a greater issue beyond the simple morality of it.

  • Have you ever tried to have a real deep meaningful relationship with a drunk?

Insobriety can drive a wedge between persons and that is what being high on Pot does between you and God. He wants you sober.

Hope that clears it up,

Bob Kirby
