Hi, guys —

My question concerns my last Confession. It was this past Easter. I had determined to confess something that I had been holding on to for years. Actually about 30 years.

I guess I was embarrassed to tell even a priest, who has probably heard it all before. I had the when, where, and approximate the number of times, ready to confess. I was all ready, went in the Confession.

Before I sat down the priest, (a visiting priest, and I know he was overworked) said,

"What are your sins?"

so I just blurted my sins as I sat. He never asked me anything. I had spent a long time agonizing over this Confession, and he acted as if it were nothing. He gave me absolution and a minor penance and I was gone in five minutes. I don't feel that it was enough, I don't want to spend eternity in Purgatory, or worse, because i didn't have a good Confession.

• Was it valid?

I am 77 years old and need to know if I am really forgiven.

• Do I need to go again?

This is my soul we are speaking of here. He is a real priest, I am sure. He was just rushed.
