Hi, guys —

  • Is it a sin to walk away from a job without notice?

I did this recently. I was working with my boss's daughter, and He made it VERY clear that she did not want to work with me. I did call the (boss/owner) later that day to apologize.

In their set-up, it was hard for me to get with the system. I did my best and prayed for guidance A LOT. I also prayed for grace to deal with the daughter. This was a part time job, 4 hours in the mornings.

I feel terrible for what I did to the boss.

I don't think you've committed a major sin; I wouldn't be despondent or overly wrought about it. There is undoubtedly a minor element of lack of charity, probably wrath I expect (in this scenario). If there were malice involved, it would be more serious, but it sounds like you were under a great deal of emotional pressure, which is a mitigating factor.

Bring it up at your next Confession so you can obtain healing, pray for the daughter and forgive her, take a deep breath, and move on with your life. The Lord is merciful, and he loves you, and he understands your weakness. As many times as you fall, rise up, and you shall be saved. And forgive yourself!

Eric
