Hi, guys —

The Catholic Church uses pagan symbols. If you don’t believe me, I would love for you to watch.

All religions come from Babylon. It is an historical film and shows the actual pagan symbols used in the Catholic Church. I would really appreciate it if you would actually watch the documentary and respond back to me on why the Catholic Church uses pagan symbols.

Thank you.

John

Eric replied:

John,

It's ironic that you have to tell us what the pagan symbols are. The power of symbols comes from their meaning and how they are understood.

  • If someone invests a Christian meaning in a symbol that used to be used by the pagans, and is unaware of the former pagan symbolism, why does that pagan symbolism have any negative impact?

If you have to tell us what the meaning is, obviously we don't currently invest them with that meaning and for all intents and purposes they are no longer pagan.

  • For example, do you wear a wedding ring?
  • Are you aware that wedding rings are of pagan origin?
  • Who cares anymore, really?

So I would make a similar argument about any pagan symbols that have been baptized and reappropriated by the Catholic Church in the service of the Gospel.

Eric
