John Anderson wrote:

Hi, guys —

I have a question about married oral sex.

I am a Lutheran who has been married to a wonderful Catholic woman for 47 years now.

In 1991, prior to retiring from the Marine Corps, I had a vasectomy performed. About 15 or so years later my wife had a serious gynecological issue that required the acid wash of her cervix, thus making her sterile. My question is,

  • Is it legal, by Catholic teaching, that the only way I am able to climax is still in her?

We used to have oral sex that resulted in orgasms that were not in the way of procreation. We stopped that practice once she found out this was against teachings of the Church for procreation.

  • Is this teaching still enforce even if both of us are sterile?

Please advise at your soonest time.

Thank you,

John

Eric replied:

Hi, John —

Yes, it is still enforce and will always be enforce. It has nothing to do with whether you are sterile but with the nature of the act.

I know this is a difficult teaching but God does give graces to those who make sacrifices to obey the difficult teachings.

I hope this helps,

Eric
