Brought up as a Protestant, we were pushed to give 10% of our income, but my husband and I are currently living off one part-time minimum wage job.

I have hesitated going to the Catholic Church, for fear that tithing would be expected and therefore we would not fit in.

No one is expected to tithe in any Catholic community, although it is a good thing.

No one checks up on whether you tithe or not.

Give what you can, out of generosity and charity.
