Juan Villagomez wrote:

Dear Mike,

There is this sin that Jesus states is impossible to be forgiven:

31 Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. 32 And whoever says a word against the Son of man will be forgiven; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.

(Matthew 12:31-32)
  • What exactly is He talking about?

Juan

  { What exactly is Our Lord talking about when He mentions blasphemy against the Holy Spirit? }

Mike replied:

Hi, Juan —

He is talking about one who believes the sin (he or she) has committed is so grave, that even God will not forgive (him or her).

For the Christian, the Holy Spirit leads all mankind to repentance and to the forgiveness of sins.

When the Christian says:

"No, the Holy Spirit  or God won't forgive me, so I won't even try to get my sins forgiven because they are too serious."

the Christian ends up playing God Himself — a deadly game!

Jesus, through His Church, will always forgive any sin — even the sin of abortion, as long as the person has the desire to repent and be forgiven!

I hope this helps,

Mike
