Doyle,

It is okay to go to Confession monthly. You only need to go more frequently if there is serious sin involved, for instance sin of a sexual nature. Communion can be received when you are in the state of grace, meaning you have confessed all serious sin.

Don't sweat the small stuff; go to Mass, receive Holy Communion, get to monthly Confession and you will be okay.
