Dear Catherine,
Thanks for the question.
While what the parents did was criminal (assault is a criminal act; forcing your underage child to get an abortion happens every day by evil parents, but there is no legal recourse or criminal penalty), there is a very low probability that any penalty would come to them for their actions.
As far as the abortion goes, she would not be culpable of the sin in a mortal sense; she was coerced and a minor under her parent's authority. That is not to say that she is not responsible for getting pregnant in the first place so, given these circumstances, I would talk about the freedom from sin and shame that is afforded to us in Christ, Jesus.
Speak about forgiveness and turning to Jesus for help. This is a chance to plant seeds that could help your friend move toward God. Whatever you do in your prayer life can be shared with her, and don't be shy about sharing your faith in the Church.
Now is the time to help save souls and turn lives around. Only faithful witnesses will help to make this world change . . . . you could be one of those witnesses! Most of all, a real demonstration of your concern for her, in every aspect of her wellbeing, will help to make your witness valid and meaningful for her.
If she is open, God can make it grow.
Peace,
Bob Kirby
