Chicken is fowl, biologically, not meat. It is meat in terms
of Christian abstinence, because abstinence pertained to animal flesh (Latin: caro, carnis).
Chicken is considered
meat for fasting even though, zoologically, it is fowl.
The Church no longer requires one to abstain from broth or seasonings made
from meat.
