Hi guys,

  • I'm wondering if there is a set of [do's and don't's] or regulations in regard to illustrating Catholic saints?

I am a Christian artist and want to do a series on Catholic saints but I can't seem to find any information in regards to this topic and I don't want to offend anyone!

Kindest Regards,

Mary Ann replied:

Hi Kate,

As an artist, you are free to depict them in any manner that is not sacrilegious or obscene.

You might want to find out the symbol traditionally associated with a given saint and if he or she is the patron/patroness of some given area.

Other than that, read John Paul II's beautiful Letter to Artists [Vatican][EWTN] and go with it!
