Hi, Reverend —
It's wonderful to hear about the work the Holy Spirit is doing in your
life Brother Anonymous. I am revert (as opposed to convert) to the Church.
Prior to returning, I was a Pentecostal minister on staff at a Spirit-filled Baptist
Church so I know where you are coming from.
Usually, in the West, only celibate men are ordained, however there are
some exceptions made for those ministers that come into the Church with
a more sacramental understanding of ministry. Typically, it is easier for:
- Anglicans
- Lutherans, and
- Methodists.
I think it would be best for you continue your journey into
the Church and learn what it means to be a lay Catholic for a period
of time.
There are many opportunities for ministry in the Church. As
minister, you obviously have a Word gift. However, that doesn't necessarily
translate to the Priesthood — although it could. God could call you to the diaconate which
is very common for married men. There are a variety of other roles
you could play in various apostolates as well.
The most important thing, for you now, is to continue to let the Holy
Spirit guide you home.
I'm sure there are doctrinal matters that you'll
have to struggle with. To that end, we are always at your service.
Under His Mercy,
John DiMascio
