Hi, guys —

I was born and raised in the Catholic faith however I left the Church and went to another religion.

  • Is it possible for me to come back to the Catholic Church?
  • If so how?

Hi, Sarah —

Sure it is! The Church is always interested in all Her members, whether they are:

  • practicing
  • active Catholics, or
  • have left the faith for some reason.

I'm sure you are aware of the numerous [public|political] figures in the news who proudly call themselves Catholic yet scandalize the Church by their public, anti-Catholic actions.

My concern as an apologist and evangelist for the Church is that many of these people think, due to their previous behavior, they can no longer be accepted back into the Church. The devil has let despair enter into their soul.

No matter whether you are Ted Kennedy or John Kerry, you are always welcome back to the Church but you have to have a sincere sorrow for your previous errors and promise not to commit them again in word and deed. Otherwise you'll be bringing your unrepentant sins to yourParticular Judgment.

Not a happy thought.

I suggest you find an priest in your area known for his faithfulness to the Church. He will be able to address any issues you may have as a single or married Catholic.

I would encourage you to get a cheap copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church on Amazon.

Reading the Catechism of the Catholic Church is the best way to catch up on the teachings of the Church you were never taught or poorly taught.

Hope this helps,

Mike
