Hi, guys —

I have three kids, ages: 12,13, and 16.

  • Is it a sin for them or (us adults) to watch horror movies?
  • What is our Church view on the movies, Twilight and Harry potter?

Thanks! We look forward on your answer.

Yours in Jesus thru Mary,

Ariel

Mary Ann replied:

Ariel —

The question should be:

  • Is it good for them?, and
  • Is it sinful for us to let them watch something harmful?

Some horror movies are harmless, some are sex and slasher movies. As for Twilight and Harry Potter: you can go to the Catholic News Service website and find their ratings at the bottom of this page. A subscription is required. If you have problems you can contact them.

Harry Potter desensitizes people to the occult (and, by the way, real black magic is used in the book). A good article on Harry Potter can be found at Free Republic.
