Hi, guys —
In 2011, I had a baby out of wedlock. My son's father is a Catholic and I am a Pentecostal by Baptism, however, as time has gone on, I have been attending the Catholic Church more and more. A friend of mine said I should consider getting confirmed because I often go to a Catholic parish and really enjoy their services. The Church seems to have all the values I believe in such as being anti-abortion and caring for children and people. She also said it would be a good for my son to be brought up in a Catholic family. For that reason, I have been thinking about it.
That said, my father, whom is a non-practicing Catholic, said that the Catholic Church would not allow me to join since I have had a child out of wedlock.
Thank you,
Lily

Can I join the Catholic Church if I have had a child out of wedlock? }

Hi, Lily —
You would have to confess the sin of fornication before being received, unless you are a Oneness Pentecostal, in which case you'd be rebaptized instead, but having a child out of wedlock is
no impediment to becoming Catholic.
Just contact your local priest and ask about taking instruction.

Lily,
It is certainly not true. Contact a priest and explore what it takes. I am glad you took the time to ask us rather take someone else's word for it.
We will be happy to welcome you and your child into the faith if you decide, after you get to know us better, it is for you.

Hi Lily,
As Father said:

I used to run a free program that sent Catechisms to seeking Protestants and non-Christians but no longer have the financial or operational means to do this anymore.
Seeing you may be preparing to take RCIA classes in the near future, I would encourage you to consider buying a cheap copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church to learn everything we believe as faithful Catholics.
Under each boxed format for the Catechism you want, you will see, below the box, an option to buy a used version, which many times, is not really used but close to new.
