Hi, guys —

I am a non-Catholic and my fiancé is a Catholic. We would like to get married in a Catholic Church and raise our children Catholic. I would also like to become a Catholic.

  • What steps should I take to become a Catholic and marry in a Catholic Church?

Bob replied:

Michelle,

Just simply ask the priest at the parish where you wish to get married (or live) and enroll in the RCIA program. The program is for prospective Catholics and Catholics who haven't received all their sacraments. They can give you all the details on how best to work it out in your situation.

Sharing the faith together will bless your marriage and family immensely. It will also provide an opportunity to grow in your personal relationship with God. We wish you many blessings and a happy life together.

Michelle replied:

Thanks Bob,

  • If we wish to get married early in 2016, will I have enough time to finish the RCIA program?

Michelle

Bob replied:

Absolutely, you could even:

  • start in the fall
  • be baptized at Easter 2015, and
  • have plenty of time to spare.

If you wish to go deeper, in understanding what we believe as Catholic Christians, consider buying a cheap copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church to learn all the basic teachings and beliefs.
