Dear Robert,
It is unfortunate that Pope Francis has publicly contradicted consistent Church Teaching since the beginning. The Bible is clear, for example read Romans 1, or 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 for a New Testament condemnation of active homosexual behavior.
The Pope has no power to change this teaching, which has been affirmed in relatively recent publications under Pope St. John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI. It has never been unclear, and faithful Catholics know it and will see through this grave error. But many will be led astray, and for that, Francis must render an account to the Just Judge.
I can't offer you any rationalization for this other than that this is an opinion, not a teaching, and a bad one at that.
This Pope represents a real crisis in theological development that has affected many, both Catholics and Protestants as well. We can only pray for this man, who very much has brought scandal to the Church.
Peace,
Bob Kirby
