Thanks for the question.

Yes, you do, because your spouse's behavior after separation doesn't retroactively nullify a formerly valid marriage. You must ascertain whether the marriage was valid, or not, and then proceed.

Since Pope Francis has somewhat streamlined this process, this may not be as difficult as you imagine.

Meet with a priest to explain your details and he can get the process rolling.
