At the beginning of a typical Mass, we normally say the Penitential Act:

Dear R. Snyder,
You can pray however you want. You can pray the Rosary, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy with Novena, or make up your own prayer, for example:
| "Lord, I bring before you all my brothers and sisters in Christ and ask you to forgive them of their sins and bring them to everlasting life." |
