Thomas Frost wrote:

Hi, guys —

I recently received a book called:

But, on the cover, I noticed that in the design, there is the number of the beast on the cover.

  • Is this book evil, or is it safe to read?
  • Am I over thinking this issue?

In Christ,

Thomas Frost
  { Seeing that in the design of this book there was the number of the beast, is it evil or is it safe to read?; Am I over thinking this? }

Bob replied:

Dear Thomas,

Thanks for the question.

Yes, you are over thinking this.  The content of the book is in no way demonic but rather an explanation of the investigatory process of the miraculous.

The fact that there are numbers on the cover in an apparent computer code, (with a host of numbers) representing the scientific aspect of the interplay, is of no consequence.  At the very worst, you may say that the artist that was hired to produce the cover art was trying to be clever by being controversial — maybe that person is an anti-Catholic who wanted to play a joke on Catholics.  Who knows, but I wouldn't give it any weight; it is only the contents that count.

I did look at a copy of the cover online and couldn't find the numbers, but I'm sure your view was better than mine as you have a copy in hand.

Peace,

Bob Kirby

Eric replied:

Thomas,

It's important to keep in mind that Sacred Scripture identifies the number of the Beast as the number of a man (Revelation 13:18), not the number of a book, a hotel room, or anything else. (I've even heard of people who freak out when they get six dollars and sixty-six cents in change from the cashier.)

Historically, this man has been identified as Nero Caesar (although there may be another future fulfillment for all we know).

It's important not to be excessively vigilant about this or to veer into superstition.

Eric

Thank You All!

The number is on the spine near the "and," but I'll stop thinking about it too much!

Thomas
