Hi, guys —

  • What is the most recent version of the Catholic Bible?
  • Is the NRSV-CE the newest version?
  • Has the latest version been published?
  • Where can I purchase the latest version of the Catholic Bible?

Thank you,

Denise

Eric replied:

Denise,

In the United States, the NABRE is the most current official translation published by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. The most recent translation from Ignatius Press is the RSV-2CE, available in several editions; an excellent edition with commentary is:

In the United States, a small set of churches (of Anglican heritage) use the RSV-2CE as the official Bible. There are Bibles called the NRSV-CE, but be cautious: the NRSV, while it has a good scholarship, was produced with a gender-agenda, replacing "brethren" with "brothers and sisters" and "man" with "people" and such, things which have been condemned by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.

In some other countries, the ESV-CE is used.

You can get any bible from your local Catholic bookstore or from Amazon.com.

I do not recommend NABRE translation bibles with Commentary.
