Hi, guys —
My question is on the exorcism of objects.
I've read that the proper steps start with the blessing and breaking of curses on the object, then the destruction of the object.
I ask this question to settle a dispute because some Catholics apparently believe that an infested item can be legitimized by the breaking of curses and then reused.
The Bible says to destroy items of worship, like in Jeremiah 43:13.
I'm assuming there has to be an official Catholic answer to this process.

As far as I know, there is no teaching as such.
There may be a praxis called for by the Rite, but the Rite is not published so I couldn't confirm it. My understanding, though, is that total and utter destruction of the item is called for by competent exorcists.

Thanks for the question.
I am not aware of an official declaration on this matter, for we are mere laymen and are not privy to the manual for exorcists. You could write and ask one of the exorcists that do interact with the public on matters like this. Just do a search for:
- Fr. Chad Ripperger
- Fr. Vince Lampert, or
- Fr. Carlos Martins
and see if you can find some contact information for them.
Personally, I would opt for the total destruction of the object. That being said, when a church has been desecrated by ritual or serious satanic practices, it is reconsecrated and not simply destroyed so the answer may be on a case-by-case basis.
