Dear Augustus,
First, as a new Catholic, let me welcome you into the Catholic Church. Your presence, time, and talent are a blessing to us all. Let me also share and extend this greeting to all other newbies who have joined the Church in recent years.
During your earthly pilgrimage you will find all types of (parishioners/fellow evangelists) from living saints to Judas’s: (who say they are “catholic” but only in name). Don’t let that discourage you. Jesus promised us that the Gates of Hell would not prevail against His Church. (Matthew 16:13-19)
- Strive to develop and form groups of like-minded faithful Catholics, who are loyal to the Magisterium of the Church.
- Live a sacramental life, renewing your Sunday obligation by going to Sunday or the Saturday Vigil Mass (and, if possible, getting to daily Mass), and monthly Confession.
- And though not obligatory, Pray the Rosary. (how to, history).
You said:
- Do you have any advice for a new Catholics about intrusive and impulsive thoughts and actions?
Yes. In today’s culture, it’s very clear that everyone on the face of the Earth, is in a spiritual war. This war is between invisible spirits, namely Godly angels and demonic angels. This is the basis for all those intrusive and impulsive thoughts and actions you are referring to.
This is where the importance of the sacramental life of the Church comes in.
The Eucharistic graces we receive at Mass (when we partake in the Divine Nature of Jesus, Himself, and become His earthly extension on Earth) allow us to see things with Catholic Christian eyes and view things the way < Jesus / the Church > would want us to see things.
This is why renewing our covenant (going to Sunday Mass) is so important. If you have had a rough time, like me and many, with sin, most Catholic parishes have Confessions every Saturday.
That’s just my two cents.
Mike
