Hi. Lee -
Thanks for the question.
The Church is both the Mystical Body
of Christ and His Bride. St. Paul
refers to Her as the Body of Christ
(Ephesians 4:12), as well as the
Temple of the Holy Spirit among other
names, but he also draws a parallel
between Earthly marriages and the
Union of Christ and His Church. Revelation also speaks of Christ coming back
for His Bride.
Mystical and spiritual Truths are
mysteries that cannot always be explained
rationally. We know that in Marriage, man and
woman become one flesh, just as Adam
said to Eve:
You are flesh of my flesh, bone
of my bone. (Genesis 2:23)
So it is quite appropriate, that
the Church is both the Body and Bride
of Christ.
Hope this helps,
John DiMascio
