Hi guys,

  • What is the Catholic Church's teaching on marriage to a non-Catholic?
  • Instead of just a service, is a Mass allowed in the wedding?
  • Can the wedding be performed outside and blessed by a priest?

e.g. desired destinations: a wedding on the beach or at a plantation home, etc.

Hi Zoe,

This is allowed with a dispensation from the bishop, which is routine.

It is, but given that most of one side of the family won't be able to receive Communion, it would be a bit awkward.  Most priests recommend not having a nuptial Mass in this case.

No, in general a wedding cannot take place outside of a sacred place. (i.e. a church or chapel)

This helps preserve the sacredness of the event.

Hope this helps,

Eric
