Hello,
I am a devout Catholic:
- born and raised Catholic, and
- a (CCD/CFF) Confraternity of Christian Doctrine/Children's Faith Formation teacher who is very faithful to the Church
but I've encountered a unique situation. I have recently
met a second cousin of mine and we have started to develop
romantic feelings towards one another (not knowing we
were related as second cousins). We can't seem to fight
off these feelings and they are now too strong for us to
simply back away.
- Is it a sin to love and possibly marry a second cousin?
At the rate we're going, this is where our relationship
is headed, but as a faithful and active Catholic I'd like
to get a second opinion. I've been getting mixed answers
from various priests.
- Is it at all accepted or considered a sin?
- Will I be turned away from the Church for continuing
on with this relationship?
I appreciate your time and thoughtful consideration.
Hope to hear from you soon.
