Alice J. DeClemente wrote:

Peace be with you.

I was speaking to someone yesterday and was told that Jesus was a vegetarian. I said that couldn't be because He was a good Jew and, as such, would have had to, at least, eaten lamb each Passover. I was looking for references in the Bible and was stumped. They said animals were created to be our friends, not our dinner.

  • Can you help?

Thank you,

Alice J. DeClemente, GDCF

Mary Ann replied:

Alice,

Why even let such people disturb one's peace?

Mike replied:

Hi Alice,

People can say the nuttiness things these days.

Just tell them you follow the Church Our Lord founded on St. Peter and such nonsense was never taught by the Apostles or Church.

We have an Oral and Written Tradition interpreted by the Church for us, where we know this is true.

No, your friend obviously has not been reading the Bible. Man is to have dominion over the animals; not treat more importantly than pre-born babies.

Eric replied:

Hi Alice,

There are several relevant proofs here, as Mike pointed out:

So that's Jesus. Let's look elsewhere.

God explicitly gave all the animals to men to eat (Genesis 9:3). Various restrictions imposed on Christians in the New Testament (Acts 15:20, 21:25) imply that we can eat meat.

Hope this helps.

Eric
