Hi, guys —

I have a question about auras. I have heard people say they see auras but disregarded this as something they imagined. Nevertheless, I recently experienced this phenomena and am disturbed by it.

I saw a large golden aura about the head of a next door neighbor. She was standing up on her porch.   I was below in the yard looking up at her as we conversed. (Actually, she was talking, I was listening.) I was startled but did not make her aware of what I saw. I looked at the ground for several seconds thinking that, when I looked back, it would be gone but it was not. I made note of the position of the sun to be sure it was not affecting my vision and then looked away again. I looked at the ground, blinking my eyes several times but the aura remained there. It was very shiny and was in motion; almost like it was shimmering. I was anxious to finish up the conversation with this woman as the image would not go away.

I went into my house and looked auras up on the computer. I noted that the color gold denotes teacher or wisdom, as the auras/halos that we see in paintings of Our Lord. Seeing the aura may not have been so disturbing, had it appeared around the head of a holy person — like my mother-in-law — but the person I saw it around is a very bitter and angry woman, about 85 years old.

When I have tried to give her words of comfort regarding her bitterness, mentioning prayer and faith, she becomes angry and recollects an occasion when she had told her husband to never bring up the name of Jesus to her again. She has previously talked about stories of how her husband and his family were hypocrites when it came to their Catholic faith and that she had been hurt by it. I know this is too long, but I felt I needed to give some details around this sighting.

  • What exactly does the Church say about auras?

I have prayed that if this is not a good thing, that it not happen to me again.

  • If I saw something bad, what should I do?

Thank you for any advice or direction you can send me in.

God Bless you and your much needed work.

Audrey

  { What does the Church teach about auras and if I saw something bad, what should I do? }

Mike replied:

Dear Audrey —

Thanks for the question.

The Church officially teaches nothing on auras.

The Church encourages its members to be living members of the Church who practice what they believe. This includes being a good Catholic Christian witness by words and deeds.

When done by words, it includes a careful balance between preaching the truth and being understanding and compassionate about each person's unique situation. Words aren't always necessary as an expression attributed (by some) to St. Francis attests:

"Preach always, and when necessary, use words."

Charity, kindness, and good deeds, over time, can have a profound effect on other people and lead them to follow a similar life for the Gospel and Our Lord's Church. Some could say that a person who lives this way, radiates an aura of a good Catholic Christian witness, but that is an individual opinion.

I can't objectively access your situation, but, in general, situations like your could be brought about by:

  1. demonic spirits who are trying to confuse your life and issues related to them.
  2. divine providence as a private revelation so that some greater good could be brought out of it.
  3. psychological, medical, or physiological issues you may have.

Talk to your local priest or pastor for further help and guidance as well as your primary care physician.

Hope this helps,

Mike

Audrey replied:

Hi Mike,

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

I know many Christians say that the manifestations of auras are demonic which is why I sought, and still seek, the Church's standing on this issue.

Two of your points are the possible reasons this manifestation may have occurred. I will give them prayerful consideration.

The third . . . Ouch! A reason many may hesitate to share such occurrences!!

But thank you again.

Oh . . . I want you to know that my family continues to be a good neighbor to the woman next door, and we pray that God will give her peace and faith in her golden years!

Audrey
