Hi, guys —
I hear this prayer said occasionally at Church
but I have never been able to identify it.
I have looked all over the internet, and cannot
find it! I have a rough recording on my cell phone
that I was able to transcribe as follows.
- Can you identify the prayer?
I love this prayer
and want to memorize it!
Oh, Lord our God, you are the giver of
every good gift.
We thank you for your constant love and
care for us.
We praise you for the beginning of life.
Renew today all that is in our hearts and
minds, that we may be deeply rooted in
your love and in your life.
Teach us how to pray, to walk, and live
in your presence.
Make us love in the nourishment that comes
from hearing your Word and celebrating
your Sacraments.
Help us to spread the Good News of Jesus
Christ; to proclaim freedom in your presence,
to shelter the unprotected, to bring comfort
and healing to the sick.
Let the dead wood of our sins be transformed
into rich soil, so that new life in Jesus
may grow.
Make us, the people of God, of St. John
Vianney parish community, and of the diocese
of Sacramento into a new people, living
each day by day faith, looking forward
to a new future in your hope, of all that
is provided in your life.
Send out your Spirit on us Lord, so that
we will be recreated and through us renew
the face of the earth.
Amen. |
Yours in Christ,
Peter Arnez

Hi, Peter —
Thanks for the question.
This is obviously a prayer written
by and for this particular parish.
It's not an official prayer of the
Church, and hopefully it is either
said:
- before the Mass begins
- after
it's over, or
- during the prayers
of the faithful.
Other than that, there is no place
for it in the Liturgy. It is a beautiful
prayer and it can be adopted by any
parish by simply changing the name
of the parish and diocese.

Hi, Peter —
Thanks for sending the nice prayer.
In return I wanted to share with
you our parish prayer.
It was written by our previous pastor.
Our Father in heaven, your family
of St. _____________, praises
you.
We thank-you for the gift of life.
We praise You for Jesus, Your
Son, Who makes us a new creation.
Pour out Your Holy Spirit that
we may repent of sin and dedicate
our lives to You.
Fill us with faith, hope and love.
Increase our hunger for Your Word
and Eucharist.
Make our hearts joyful with the
awareness that we are your family.
Bring forward the fruit of holiness
in our lives for Your glory.
Grant us wisdom, courage and strength
to share Your life in Word and
deed with all Your people.
We ask this in the name of Jesus,
our Lord, with the intercession
of Mary,
our Mother, and ___________,
our Patron.
Amen |
