Hi, guys —

I did something really stupid without thinking; I wanted something so bad.  After asking God and not getting an answer, I turned to the wrong side and made a deal.

  • I need to know if there is help for me to break the deal or will I have to live with it?

Mary Ann replied:

Dear M. F. —

I am not sure what you mean, but God is almighty.

You can always turn back to Him.

It is the devil that tells you it is hopeless and that you can't.

He is a liar.

God is always merciful, and is more powerful than the devil. The very fact you want to turn back, is proof that there is hope (although there is always hope whether you think there is or not).

First, turn away from every sin and, if you are Catholic, go to Confession. You might want to explain the situation to the priest and ask him if there is any way he can help beyond that.

I'd definitely get some holy water and blessed salt and use it. If you have problems being harassed by the devil, you can seek deliverance or even an exorcism, although I've heard of people, who are in a lot worse situation than yours: cured, simply by praying the Our Father with a priest.

Here is something really quick you can do. This Saturday, find an Easter Vigil service at a Catholic church. There is a part where baptismal promises are renewed. Even if you aren't baptized, you can participate in this, and I think it will be helpful. It goes something like this:

  • Do you reject Satan? (All respond: I do)
  • And all his empty works?
  • And all his empty promises?

Or it may be a similar set of questions. The point is, it's a public way of renouncing satan, though this only happens once a year in most parishes.

If you are not baptized, you can get a simple exorcism by a Catholic Baptism.

Hope this helps,

Eric
