Gail —
There used to be two celebrations, Palm Sunday and Passion Sunday.
Passion Sunday, as the name implied,
focused on the Passion of our Lord.
It was celebrated so that those who
didn't attend services on Good Friday (which
is not a day of obligation) would
hear the Passion of the Lord.
In the changes following Vatican
II, Palm Sunday and Passion Sunday
were combined into Palm Sunday.
