Hi, guys —

Your quotations are inspirational. It's good to know that Church attendance has such an impact on ones life. It would be reason enough for going to, or returning to, Church services on a weekly basis.

  • Are there any statistics on the effects on Marriage when only one spouse goes to church?

Thanks,

Maureen

Mike replied:

Hi Maureen,

I assume you are talking about my Holy Quotes and the 52 practical and scientific reasons to go to Church.

You said:

The only statistic I have heard deals with the children. In families with children, where the father is the only parent that goes to Church on a weekly basis, the children are far more likely to grow up going to church on their own on a regular basis, compared to when the mother is the only one going to Sunday Services.

Sorry, I forgot what the source was, but I thought it was reputable.

Hi Mike,

Thank you for getting back so promptly. What I should have asked was:

  • What was the effect on the stability of marriages when one spouse is a frequent church goer and the other is not?

God bless

Maureen

Fr. Jonathan replied:

Mike,

I don't have that statistic, but if you have a lot of time perhaps you could scan the archives of the Barna Group. It is ecumenical but they do studies like this at [Barna.org]
