Hi, guys —
My boyfriend and I are planning on getting married in a couple of years. He is Catholic, but I am Protestant. I was raised Baptist and my dad worked for the Southern Baptist convention.
I was wondering what our options for marriage are.
I know that Catholics are supposed to get married within the Catholic Church for the marriage to be valid, but I am not Catholic!
- If we got married outside the Church would it still be valid?

In your case, the first posting is the best. I added the second posting because, though it is long,
Fr. Jonathan gave some good basics on marriage from a Catholic viewpoint in his final reply.
If a Catholic got married outside the Church, their marriage would be invalid.

Dear Megan,
You both should make an appointment with a Catholic priest. He can give you the options and he can get your spouse the proper dispensations and permission required.
If you don't do that and just get married outside of the Catholic Church with no contact with the Catholic Church then your marriage will be considered invalid.
