While I feel unworthy to speak for St. Louis de Montfort, I'll share with you what I think he would say.

You said:

The Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary is intended to be a personal, private act of the individual; one I made years ago.

Though the consecration is an individual choice, ones individual choice effects their immediate family members, so sure, they probably receive some blessings.

That said, your friends and family have to choose whether they want a special relationship with Our Lady, as Jesus would want them to have. Your choice to consecrate yourself totally to Jesus through Mary, should encourage them to do the same.

You said:

• Is my father and his difficult situation at work uniquely under Mary's ownership and protection?

• Does he want it to be under Mary's ownership and protection as Jesus was?
• If Mary's protection (being the bearer of the God-Man in her womb) was good enough for Jesus, why wouldn't it be good enough for your father?
