Hi, guys —

I was looking on the site for this answer, and couldn't quite find it.

  • Is it a sin, mortal or otherwise, to support same-sex marriage?

I do not support it, but it seems that many who call themselves Catholics do.

  • It is possible to be Catholic and support same-sex marriage?
  • Should those who do support same-sex marriage be excommunicated?

Please be specific.

Thanks.

Curious

  { Can a Catholic support same-sex marriage and, if they do, is it a sin, mortal or otherwise? }

Paul replied:

Dear Curious,

Deliberately supporting same-sex marriage is formal cooperation with evil, and would constitute serious sin. Such support also becomes the cause of other souls to stumble.

No Catholic, or person of good will, can support this contradiction of human nature. Too often people allow displaced compassion to lead them to having a disordered will.

To those that know better, their soul is in serious danger.

Paul
