Hi, guys —
My husband and myself we're asked to baptize our nephew but the problem is we are not married in the Church.
- Can we still baptize him?

Eric replied:
Hi, Rachel —
Except in case of emergency, only a priest or deacon may lawfully baptize into the Catholic Church.
Whether you're married in the Church is irrelevant.

Mike replied:
Hi, Rachel —
In addition to what my colleague Eric said, the Church has to have a good hope that the child will be raised Catholic. Without that hope, [he or she] can't be baptized.
Hope this helps,
Mike
