Patty Justman wrote:

Hi, guys —

I have been thinking a lot lately. Jesus died for us, God's children and though there is nothing in the Bible about suicide, it does say the following in the Bible verses listed below.

  • If Jesus died for us then why shouldn't we die for our children?

I have read all of this but it does not answer that question.

  • Why can't we die for our children?
  • If your children will benefit from your death and they would be better off without you,
    why not do it?

I have done everything in my power to make their lives easier, no matter what it was.
The only thing left is to die as Jesus did. Giving Up.

[Patty then provided a list of 32 quotes from the Scriptures.]

Bob replied:

Patty,

I don't know if you have been contemplating suicide or what, but taking one's own life is never acceptable and constitutes a grave sin. You are misreading Scripture if you believe the Bible recommends or advocates that.

If you are experiencing:

  • depression
  • mental illness, or
  • some other condition

please seek out help immediately. Your family members would be greatly traumatized by your loss should you act on a desperate impulse.

If you are experiencing darkness in your soul perhaps there is demonic oppression in your life and you should seek help from someone who is trained in those matters — a priest is my recommendation.

Finally, we do lay down our lives for own another, but only when someone else is the taker,
for example, standing in the path of a bullet when someone else would be hit. Turning the
gun on oneself is an entirely different matter.

If you are experiencing any of the issues I listed above, do not hesitate to get help, we will pray for you too.

God bless you,

Bob Kirby

Mike replied:

Dear Patty,

I just wanted to add to Bob's answer.

First take his advice and seek someone out who can help.

It's important to remember we all were created for a special purpose in life.
God is madly in love with us; even when we are sinning he is madly in love with us.

Any thoughts of despair only come from that bastard satan. Don't listen to him.
Take Bob's advice and seek out some help. You owe it to your children.

You said:
... and though there is nothing in the Bible about suicide,

The Church would equate suicide with the 5th Commandment. (Thou shall not kill. ... [thy self].)
