John Lee wrote:

Hi, guys —

I would appreciate it if you could give me some correct advice.

I was baptized in a Non-denominational Christian church in Junior High School. In High School,
I became a Catholic and received Holy Communion and Confirmation.

I am now a 45-year-old adult.

I have the records of my Baptism but not the records from the Catholic Church. I called the parish and the archdiocese. Both do not have any records and the pastor of that parish has already passed away.

  • What should I do next to try to obtain my Catholic Baptismal records?

Thanks to all of you in advance.

God bless.

Fr. Jonathan replied:

Hi, John —

I would recommend that you get affidavits of what took place and then appeal to the new pastor of the parish to create the records that should have been recorded back when you became a Catholic.

There should have been a record of your coming into the Church in the Baptismal register of the Church that received you. That record would also note where you were actually baptized.

Whoever brought you into the Church may have been sloppy with the records. It may very well be that you will need to produce a record of your Baptism again but you said you have them so it should all go pretty smoothly.

Fr. Jonathan
