I was baptized in the Catholic Church. That was the only sacrament I had received until recently. My parents didn't follow through with anything else beyond that in regards to the Catholic Church.

My husband and I joined a parish about a year ago and just last weekend we got our marriage sacramentalized. Our Father allowed me to receive Holy Communion during the ceremony. Until this time, I never went up to receive Communion.

  • Since I received Communion during our marriage ceremony, can I now start receiving Communion during Sunday Mass? or
  • Do I have to complete RCIA before I am able to receive Communion on a weekly basis?

Katie,

Technically you don't have to go through RCIA since you already have had your First Communion but I would still recommend it.

Normally, you would have your first Confession before receiving your First Communion so if your priest didn't give you the sacrament of Confession, you should receive that first. RCIA can prepare you for Confirmation which you should have already had as well.

Being married in the Church is wonderful but living a life of faith in the Church is better, and for that, good education and formation is needed. Going through RCIA will enable you to grow stronger and more in tune with your Catholic identity and faith.
