Hi Sarah,
Here is my two cents.
When talking to my niece and nephews, I always try to set a good moral example but tell them a vocation comes from within.
No one can tell another person what his or her vocation is. Sometimes it takes a while but it will come from within with continued prayer.
The only thing I tell them about life, in general, is:
If you are not a leader, by default you are a follower.
The idea is to encourage them to lead, not only in their vocation but also by their Catholic Christian morals. This is a little difficult seeing their mother isn't the most religious person I know.
I would:
- Continue to prayer. (I recommend praying the Rosary.)
- Get involved in church ministries whether you are a Catholic or non-Catholic Christian
- Find out which ministries you enjoy and which you don't.
This is a great way to meet new friends and contacts too.
- Find more social ways to meet new people in a Christian setting.
You may meet Mr. Right, if you feel called to the married life.
Hey, look at what age Abraham and Sarah were when they had their first child!
I keep reminding my girlfriend of this but she just does the Sarah thing and laugh. : )
By your question, it appears you have no interest in the religious life but that's fine.
Finally, whether you are a Catholic or not, I would find a Catholic Adoration Chapel in your area and spend an hour with the Lord.
After a few minutes there, Ask Him! Try this prayer:
I know Lord that you created me for a specific purpose in life but I am having a hard time discerning that purpose. Based on my aptitude and abilities, what I would like doing and not like doing, please show me, in your Divine Providence, how you want me to serve you both:
- In the Church and
- Outside the Church in a secular vocation.
Amen.
I hope this helps,
Mike
