Hi, guys —

I have recently found out that I am a Roman Catholic.

  • How does one become Roman Catholic, after birth, if my parents are Anglican?

  { How does a one become a practicing Roman Catholic after birth, if my parents are Anglican? }

Mike replied:

Dear WonderingWhatToDo,

Thanks for the question.

If you are a Catholic, more than likely, there has to be a Baptismal certificate in a Catholic parish somewhere close to where you have lived up to now.

If your parents are Anglican, I would guess that you never received any Catholic catechetical instruction in the faith.

For this reason, you want to make an appointment with the pastor at a local Catholic parish that is faithful to the Church and ask:

  • To confirm that you were baptized in the Church, and
  • Ask to participate in the local RCIA program.

Besides learning what we believe as faithful Catholics, RCIA can be a great opportunity where you can meet new friends and discover ministries that you may have a vocational calling to.

I hope this helps,

Mike

Hi Mike,

I have called to where my mother had told me I was baptized in a Catholic chapel in a hospital, unfortunately I have to call back.

Thanks for your help.
