Luci Hoard wrote:

Hi, guys —

My friend's husband was baptized last year and she asked if I know what they are supposed to do with the commemorative candle they received at the Baptism.

Another friend has kept the candle from her husband's Baptism years ago.

  • He has passed and was wondering if she might light this candle on the anniversary of [her husband's] Leo's Baptism and whether there are appropriate prayers to recite?
  • I am a cradle Catholic, and do not have one . . . is it too late?

Thanks.

Luci Hoard

Bob replied:

Luci,

That is a nice idea. I don't have anything better to offer for a use for the candle. Try googling it.

Peace,

Bob Kirby

Mike replied:

Hi Luci,

I agree with Bob. I think your friend has a very good idea.

You can probably ask your local pastor to bless an extra baptismal candle for you and ask that your family remember you, after you pass to the final stage of our lives.

You can probably find loads of prayers for the faithful departed on the web or from a good Catholic book of prayers. Just search out a local Catholic bookstore.

Mike

Luci replied:

Thanks so much,

I am especially pleased that I can ask for one to celebrate my Baptism!

I like the prayers from the Office for the Dead.

I enjoy your work,

Luci
