Hi, guys —

  • Are we obliged to report all crimes/law-breaking?

For example, I know people who violate copyright laws by downloading movies, etc. or who buy these things from others. I also know others who have fake ID's, social security numbers, etc.

  • Is it my duty to report them?

In the case of copyrighted material, I don't even know who to report it to and it seems like the authorities don't do much about it since:

  • many piracy websites are still online
  • no one shuts them down, not even the copyright holders, and
  • legally we aren't required to report them.

This has been bothering me a lot. It seems like it's not my job since I don't have a job that checks IDs or copyright issues but morally I'm conflicted whether or not I have to report them.

It can be exhausting and even unscrupulous to report everyone breaking the law.

Karen

Bob replied:

Karen,

It is not your responsibility to report everything.

God sees everything and will deal with anyone who has to make an accounting.

If the matter were to put someone at risk of physical harm (or something serious) that would be a different story.

Peace,

Bob Kirby
