FearOfConfrontation Frank wrote:

Hi, guys —

In the past couple years, I have just started to really practice my Catholic faith. There is so much I never knew. Let me get right to the point.

My wife and I can't have children. She uses contraception because they supposedly help with her cramps. I know that contraception is wrong. She is not as deeply into the faith as I am. I am weak because I fear having this discussion with my wife will lead to a confrontation.

  • If I confess this to my priest, will I be kept away from the Eucharist?

I've been wrestling with this for a while now and I feel guilty and afraid.

  • Can you give me your best answer?

I'd appreciate it.

Frank

  { Since I want no confrontation, if I confess contracepting with my wife, can I go to Communion? }

Paul replied:

Hi, Frank,

One shouldn't use contraceptive pills for health reasons. Not only do they contracept, but they have a back-up mechanism of aborting tiny embryonic children when women don't even know they're with-child.

There are other medications that work better for women's health purposes. Pope Paul VI Institute specializes in this information. Contact them:

It would probably be good to discuss your situation with your priest, especially if he's a solid one — faithful to the Church's teachings. Let him direct you with regard to receiving our Lord in the Eucharist . . . and pray.

Peace,

Paul
